Job description

Hydrosat is a space and data analytics company building a new Earth Observation constellation and software to unlock the power of thermal infrared imagery. Our mission is to capture and deliver high spatio-temporal resolution thermal infrared data, currently not available from other sources, to provide insights that benefit the environment, enhance food and water security, and serve other critical applications. Our ground segment engineering team combines best-in-class remote sensing, software engineering and large scale cloud computing to take data from our in-house satellites to deliver novel data products.

We are looking for bright, creative, and ambitious people who can work in a dynamic and collaborative start-up environment. Hydrosat is determined to change the way people use space imagery and revolutionize agriculture. Join us on this mission and help transform the world.

As a Software Engineer, Satellite Operations, you will design and maintain systems that power Hydrosat’s management of our growing satellite constellation. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams - including cloud engineers, space systems engineers, and software developers - to build reliable, scalable solutions. Your work will include building full stack services that support satellite operations, developing automation for tasking satellites, and working closely with other engineering teams building our satellite data platform.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and develop scalable, full-stack services used for operating our growing constellation of satellites

  • Strong product mindset: eye for detail in shaping tools and reporting the scale the efficiency of our satellite operations

  • Own projects end-to-end: from design and prototyping through deployment, monitoring, and iteration

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with space systems, product, and other software engineering teams

  • Mentor and guide engineers by sharing best practices and fostering a culture of technical excellence

  • Contribute to quality by conducting code reviews, writing tests, and improving engineering processes

  • Leverage modern technologies such as Python, Node.js, TypeScript, React, AWS, and Docker to deliver performant and maintainable services

Job requirements

  • US Citizen or Permanent Resident

  • 5+ years of professional full stack software engineering experience with proven impact across multiple systems and teams

  • Strong expertise in Python and Node/TypeScript

  • Experience with front-end frameworks (React)

  • Experience with developing applications in a cloud environment (AWS)

  • Experience taking complex manual processes and developing automated services and processes.

  • Solid understanding of the software development lifecycle: design, development, testing, deployment, monitoring, and operations

  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate ambiguity and deliver high-quality solutions

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment

Nice to have

  • Preference for experience with python libraries for astrodynamics

  • Previous experience with space operations teams and technologies

  • Familiarity with the geospatial and Earth observation sector

Benefits

  • Employee options

  • Health insurance: Medical, Vision, Dental

  • Flexible time off

  • Maternity, Paternity & Parental Leave

  • 401K Matching
