Summary: MSM Industries is seeking driven Engineering Interns to join our team for a 10-week, hands-on internship program supporting precision manufacturing operations within the aerospace and defense industry. This program is designed to immerse interns in real-world production environments focused on tight-tolerance machining, complex component manufacturing, and continuous process improvement.
Interns will work directly with engineering, quality, and production teams to support critical manufacturing processes and contribute to ongoing operational and technical initiatives. This role requires full-time, onsite participation at our Riverside, CA facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Support manufacturing and process engineers in the production of precision-machined components for aerospace and defense applications
- Assist in developing, improving, and documenting manufacturing processes, including CNC machining, assembly, and inspection workflows
- Analyze production data to identify inefficiencies, scrap drivers, and opportunities for yield improvement
- Collaborate with quality teams on root cause analysis and corrective actions for non-conformances
- Review and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and technical specifications
- Contribute to tooling, fixturing, and workholding design improvements
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives aligned with lean manufacturing principles
- Assist with first article inspections (FAI), validation activities, and process qualification efforts
Required Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline
- Strong interest in precision manufacturing, machining, and aerospace/defense production environments
- Basic understanding of engineering drawings and GD&T principles
- Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks) and Microsoft Office tools
- Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, hands-on, team-oriented environment
- Must be able to commit to a full-time, 10-week onsite internship in Riverside, CA
Preferred Qualifications
- Exposure to CNC machining, CAM programming, or shop floor environments
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies
- Experience with metrology tools (calipers, micrometers, CMM, etc.)
- Understanding of aerospace quality standards (e.g., AS9100)
